Free vs Full
What the Free version includes, and what Full unlocks.
Full is a one-time purchase through Microsoft Store on Windows and the Apple App Store on Mac. Purchases are separate between the two stores.
Free
Free includes:
- 2 live source connections
- 1 saved Data Map
- up to 9 table nodes per saved Data Map
- 3 working tables
Browsing with Direct Explore is not limited by these numbers — the limits apply when saving. See Direct Explore.
Full
Full unlocks:
- unlimited saved local assets (sources, maps, working tables)
- Data Map export, including
.datamap.jsonfiles and dbt project ZIPs - data export (CSV, Excel, JSON)
- import save-copy
- SQL endpoint publishing
- trust identity and trusted sender features
Full removes limits on how many local assets you can save; it does not change how big your database is or how fast your queries run.
Upgrading
When a license is purchased, the app picks it up — if the app was open during purchase, a license refresh may be needed. See Troubleshooting.
Full is a one-time purchase — not a subscription — and it unlocks the paid features in the app. The app itself is always free to install.
Buying Full on Windows
On Windows, Data Map Studio is free to install from Microsoft Store. Full is a one-time Microsoft Store in-app purchase/add-on that unlocks the paid features in the app. Final local price, discounts, and any applicable taxes are shown by Microsoft Store at checkout.
Full may not be available for purchase in every Microsoft Store market. If Full is unavailable in your region, you can continue using the Free version.
Buying Full on Mac
Download Data Map Studio from the Mac App Store — it supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and requires macOS 12 or later. Then open Settings → License → Upgrade to Full. Full is a one-time purchase. The App Store displays your local price.
Purchases are separate per store
Purchases are separate between the two stores. A Microsoft Store purchase of Full applies to the Windows app only, and an Apple App Store purchase of Full applies to the Mac app only. Buying Full in one store does not unlock Full in the other, and no single purchase covers both platforms.
Each platform also has its own Free limits and its own saved local assets; the two stores do not share purchase state, accounts, or entitlements.
Purchase and licensing are handled by the store you buy from. On Windows that is Microsoft Store; on Mac it is the Apple App Store. Data Map Studio only reads the resulting Store entitlement to decide whether Free or Full features are available.
